The City of Vallejo was born in 1851

Vallejo was once home to the Coastal Miwok, Suisunes, and Patwin Native American tribes"

Early Pioneers

Spanish coastal exploration started in the sixteenth century, and subsequent European settlement along the shore and in the interior valleys started in the eighteenth. California belonged to New Spain until Mexico's Independence in 1821, after which it joined Mexico until the Mexican-American War (1846–1848), after which it was given up to the United States in accordance with the stipulations of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Mexican government dispatched Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo from San Francisco to the region in 1834 with three goals in mind: to colonize the area by founding a pueblo (Sonoma), to secularize the San Francisco Solano Mission in Sonoma, and to be close to the Russian Outpost at Fort Ross. After California was admitted to the Union as the 31st state in 1850, General Vallejo donated 156 acres of his land and pledged $370,000 to build the thriving new state capital, but it was John B. Frisbie (husband of Fannie Vallejo) who founded Vallejo.
